Is being a stripper/exotic dancer really work?
if they’re just taking off clothes and dancing, that doesn’t seem like a lot of work to me
Actually yes it is work, if the girl IS a dancer and not a prostitute. Funny as it sounds, it’s mentally, physically and emotionally charged work.
Mentally, you need to have the right attitude to do it. Happy even when you’re having a bad day, lots of smiling and convincing yourself that you are the hottest thing ever for the time you are there. The minute you start feeling crappy, you lose money. Also need to be a good conversationalist, because most clubs these days work on drink and VIP dance money so you need kinda sales background.
Physically, the better you dance the more money you make, the more energetic, creative etc, the better. It’s a 24/7 job to keep your body in good shape for this competitive business.
Emotionally you need to deal with all kinds of people. Your co workers, who a lot of the time are crazy, demanding club owners, the one guy who insults you and tries pushing buttons, and all the other ones who are constantly trying to pick you up and see you outside of work.
SO yeah it’s a rough job, fun at times but like any other job, it gets redundant and irritating. It’s a lot like a very competitive sales job. Only you have to deal with sexual harrassment on a daily basis, and looks matter most of the time.
